Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has insisted that he cannot perform miracles after he led the team to a 0-0 draw against Tanzania in his first match in charge.
The 2013 African champions were comprehensively outplayed by the East Africans, with only Carl Ikeme’s excellent goalkeeping preventing them from suffering an embarrassing defeat.
“I have said it over and over that I am no magician. We have to come to accept the hard fact that we are not right there at the top there, at the moment,” Oliseh told the media in Port Harcourt on Monday while also sounding positive ahead of Tuesday’s friendly with neighbours Niger.
“No doubt, we have potential, and based on the unity I have seen amongst the players, and the willingness to work hard and accomplish, we will get back to the top in good time.”
Oliseh however reminded all Nigerian fans that the team is undergoing a rebuilding process.
“We are building a new team, and patience is required. It is like starting from the scratch, because the fact is that we didn’t qualify for the last Africa Cup of Nations.
“However, I have the confidence that this group will make Nigeria proud again,” he said.
The Eagles will on Tuesday at 3pm play against the Mena of Niger in an international friendly at the Adokiye Amiesieamaka Stadium.
Niger lost 2-0 to Burundi in Bujumbura on Saturday in their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
Midfielder Izunna Uzochukwu is out of Tuesday’s game likewise right-back Leon Balogun due to injuries.
Also, defender Kenneth Omeruo has recovered from his knock against Tanzania, the NFF website further informs.
